Meeting this coming wednesday. I expect you all to be there.

It's mostly for people who were members of the club last year so that we can figure out a more permanent schedule and stuff.

I'll let you all know the room number as soon as I know

We need to have a meeting sometime soon to discuss future meetings and decide upon the rest of the club officers, so you guys should comment here with days that would work well for you. I'll post one day soon when everything is set.

I am very sorry that we haven't had a meeting in quite a while, things have been a little crazy and there have been a few obstacles that took some time to get past.

there will be a meeting of GSA tomorrow in room 301 (the same room as before) at 3:00.

I hope everyone will come and continue to support the club.

Six years ago today, Matthew Shepard was murdered for being homosexual.

What will you do to end the silence?

Hey kids,
We need to get together at some point before school starts to figure out what days are options for meetings and to create a list of things that need to get done and stuff.

We also need to find someone to be the treasurer for this coming year, because that (I think) is a requirement for school board funded clubs. so, who should that be?

Also, tell as many people as you think will join GSA (or even just people who would be interested in/or are willing to support the cause) about this community .

[24 Aug 2004|12:11am]

I wanted to say that this thing fucking rocks. And that I am very excited to start our GSA in Long Beach this year... I think it's about time that our high school got it's act together.

Anyway, this is semi-personal, but not really. The other night I was speaking to my brother's girlfriend online, and she's had "slip ups" where she's said the word gay, in my opinion, inappropriately. I've asked her on several occasions to please not say that word in front of me, and later explained that I was proactive in the gay community, fighting for equality, and that my friends and I had organized a GSA at our highschool. Anyway, she "slipped up" AGAIN, for about the fourth or fifth time, and I was very harsh on her, and ultimately told her that she can either say what she means, (stupid and not gay) or to not speak to me at all. It's that simple. Anyway, because of the way I conducted myself, I upset her, which upset my brother, and eventually upset me. And why? Well I think it comes back to intolerance and sensitivity. Apparently she is less senstive to a subject that i am hypersensitive to. And her intolerance of respecting gays as a whole, wound up my hypersensitivity. Now, i became absolutely intolerant of her intolerance, thus fucking the both of us over. Anyway, lesson to be learned: intolerance cannot be combated with intolerance. And as backwards and difficult as it is, it needs to be treated with patience and kindness. The objective is not to ostracize us proactives from those who do not see eye to eye, the objective is to get other people to see eye to eye with us.

degrassi. [21 Aug 2004|02:53am]

[ mood | 8.6 ]

So tonight I was watching degrassi and it was the episode where Marco(the gay kid on the show) goes on a date with another guy. It was an great episode and i think its great that I show that reaches out to teens did something like that, because some of these teen shows out there are afraid to show things like that which is horrible but the truth.

I just felt like sharing that.

Has anyone else seen this episode?

N. J. gov says he's gay, resigns [12 Aug 2004|05:29pm]

Today Governor McGreevy of New Jersey resigned from office because he was gay. There was of course, more to it, but the media is focusing on his homosexuality. McGreevy was a husband and father, he had an affair with a man. Tomorrow there will be a lawsuit against him for sexual misconduct.

This is of course, unfortunate.

McGreevey, said that "it makes little difference that as governor I am gay," but added that staying in office and keeping the affair and his sexual orientation secret will leave the governor's office "vulnerable to rumors, false allegations and threats of disclosure."

[11 Aug 2004|03:04am]

The first meeting of the Long Beach High School Gay Straight Alliance will be in early september but we are looking to get a few members before that date. The club will discuss civil rights focusing on lgbtq (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gender, and questioning). Beyond that LBHS GSA will be a place for all members to talk openly (as well as respectfully) about the issues that are important to them and pertain to the material the club is based on. The atmosphere is going to be friendly and comforting, everyone is welcome regardless of sexual preference.
